Famous for their mahogany hulled powerboats, Chris-Craft boats is a privately owned American manufacturer of premium powerboats. Based in Sarasota, Florida, the founder, Chris Smith, set a standard by which all boats were and continue to be measured: beauty, style, durability, agility and comfort.
Originally the company only sold high-end powerboats to wealthy patrons such as Henry Ford and William Randolph Hearst, but with the United States entering the Second World War in 1941, Chris-Craft shifted they focus to producing military goods.
Following the war, Chris-Craft was able to re-enter the pleasure boat category – or what we call today, luxury boats. Here, they introduced a new line up of yachts, which were sold predominantly to high profile celebrities like Dean Martin, Katharine Hepburn, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley.
By the end of the decade, the company was at the height of prestige and the brand name Chris-Craft became virtually synonymous with luxury boating. Today it continues to do the same and in turn, is held at the same regard.
